RICHARD MURRAY & CO'S CENTURY OF SERVICE

1923

Richard Murray & Co Inc was founded by Richard Murray II, with his brother Edward joining shortly after. The company initially served as Steamship Agents and International Freight Forwarders, representing two steamship lines for newsprint paper cargo between Canada and the U.S Gulf.
1926

Ed Roberts of Waterman Steamship Corp invited them to New Orleans, leading Richard Murray II to sell his interest to Edward, who continued operating Richard Murray & Co Inc. The company added custom brokerage services in 1937 to support steel mills in Alabama.
1937

Edward Murray obtained his customs broker license, prompting Richard Murray & Co Inc to add custom brokerage services. This expansion allowed them to serve the steel mills in the Birmingham, Alabama area, clearing and shipping Iron Ore from Mobile to Birmingham and Bessemer for companies like U.S Pipe & Foundry Company and Woodward Iron Company.
1953

Mary Catherine Trainor began her long career at Richard Murray & Co Inc, specializing in export services, letters of credit, and forest products. Her expertise became invaluable to the company over the years.
1970's

Edward "Zemmie" Murray Jr. joined the company, obtained his customs broker license, and later took over as the owner. The company expanded its customs brokerage services and welcomed new employees, including David Vella and Edna Goodman Potter.
1980's

Richard Murray & Co Inc relocated its office and opened another office in Savannah, Georgia. They also ventured into stevedoring with Southern Cargo Handling Inc. Juanita Domning joined the import department, and the business continued to grow in both import and export sectors.
2000's

Richard Murray & Co sustained continued success as import goods brokers throughout the U.S.
2023

Richard Murray & Co. proudly celebrates its 100th Anniversary, marking a century of providing exceptional shipping, customs brokerage, and freight forwarding services.
