– A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE –

A CENTURY OF SERVICE

  • 1904

    Merchants Transfer was founded as a warehousing and moving company located on the Alabama State Docks. The primary commodities handled were bananas and coffee imported from the islands.

  • 1923

    Richard Murray & Co Inc was founded by Richard Murray II in 1923. Shortly after he opened, he asked his younger brother, Edward Murray, to join him. Edward was working for the American Pitch Pine Export Lumber Company. Edward went to work with his brother Richard, and they worked together until 1926. 

  • 1926

    Ed Roberts of Waterman Steamship Corp asked them to move to New Orleans and go to work for Waterman Steamship Corp in 1926. Richard Murray II sold his interest in the company to Edward Murray and moved to New Orleans with Waterman Steamship Corp. Edward stayed at Richard Murray & Co Inc. 

  • 1937

    In 1937 Edward Murray obtained his customs broker license and they added custom brokerage to their services so they could service the steel mills in the Birmingham, Alabama area. They cleared and shipped Iron Ore from Mobile to Birmingham and Bessemer for many years to U.S Pipe & Foundry Company and Woodward Iron Company. 

  • 1953

    In 1953 Mary Catherine Trainor went to work at the company and began a long career at the only job she ever had in the export department specializing in letters of credit, export forest products and cast-iron pipe. Her expertise in these areas was invaluable to the company for her many years of loyal service.

  • 1970’s

    In 1970 Edward F Murray Jr, affectionately known as “Zemmie” joined the company. He obtained his customs broker license in 1973 and purchased the company from his father. The business continued to grow in the 1970s, adding more customs brokerage to their services and in the late 1970s David Vella came to work at the company in the export department. Also, Edna Goodman Potter joined the company as the bookkeeper. Mrs. Potter formerly worked for Fillette, Green & Company Inc for many years, a well-known Steamship Agency along the Gulf Coast.

  • 1980’s

    The original office locations were, First National Bank & Commerce Building. In 1982 Richard Murray and Company Inc relocated their office to 105 N Conception Street in downtown Mobile. They also opened an office in Savannah, Georgia with N. D. Cunningham. This office continued for five years. 

  • 1998

    David Kennedy, Ralph Amos, Melissa Campbell and Kevin Palozzo form Southern Intermodal Xpress (SIX).

  • 2000’s

    Richard Murray & Co. sustained continued success with brokering import goods throughout the U.S.

  • 2006

    Mac Taul, John Stimpson and Christopher Watkins started Point Logistics.

  • 2007

    Mac, John and Christopher purchased and merged Cargo Dispatch Trucking with Point Logistics Transportation LLC.
  • 2014

    Mac, John and Christopher purchased and merged Point Logistics Transportation LLC with Six Inc and begin operating under Six LLC – Southern Intermodal Xpress.

  • 2023

    Richard Murray & Co. celebrates its 100th Anniversary.
